A very interesting discussion on knee osteoarthritis and the brain.
If you have osteoarthritis, the take-home message should be that the image you see on the x-ray, that ‘bone on bone’ that might be seen in any body part (including the spine) is only a possible part of the whole pain picture. See a good physical therapist first and you may be able to work on the brain part, as well as the joint and muscle part, and possibly prevent having to have a surgery.
