Recently there appears to be an underground revolution happening within the online Physical Therapy community. It appears to have started on twitter with the hashtag #SOLVEPT.
#SOLVEPT has been discussed on:
So what does this mean? I’m really not sure. I believe that PTs from various clinical practices have been sharing ideas about how we can improve practice, education, reimbursements, etc. I myself, believe that the understanding of pain science is lacking among PTs. The number one cost to our healthcare system in the US is pain. The number one reason why individuals seek our services in an outpatient setting is due to pain. Yet, many in our profession could not tell you how pain “works”.
I believe we all have the ability to make a change within our profession. Whether this means sharing the results of an article we read, discussing the latest technology, or simply bringing an idea to the table. We all have great ideas on how we can #SOLVEPT, so let’s share them. Voices often get lost in the political arena of national organizations but I see this as a grassroots movement which will improve our profession. I encourage you to not only share ideas on this blog, but to share them on twitter, facebook, your own blogs, the manual therapists blog, EIMs blog, the PT Think Tank, etc. This sharing of ideas will help us become better.
If you want to start making a change, please sign the petition encouraging CAPTE to incorporate pain science education into PT curriculums. Many programs are still teaching outdated theories such as The Gate Control Theory and this is one way we can work together to #SOLVEPT!
Please share this hashtag. Share this blog. Share the other blogs I linked. Share an article. Share ideas. This is how we will evolve as PTs. Lets start a revolution.
