Some numbers to consider…

Some statistics were published in the September 2014 edition of  PT in Motion.   Here are 2 numbers we should think about:

The following two numbers, were taken from the Top 10 procedures in total payments to PTs and other providers of physical medicine and rehabilitation services in 2012:

CPT code: 97035  Ultrasound was provided by 15,065 providers resulting in $29,222,458 in Medicare reimbursement

CPT code: G0283 Electrical Stimulation (unattended) was provided by 18,798 providers resulting in $62,549,781 in Medicare reimbursement

What do you think?

  1. Wow! I am speechless. We spend soooo much time and money on skills and critical thinking to produce this?! Any idea what trend has been in last 10 years?

  2. Money talks and money treats. It’s not that US PT’s don’t have clinical reasoning or aren’t educated on evidence based medicine, the point is they are going to use whatever is going to produce more money.
