 There are many opportunities for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy to get involved with the advocacy efforts that impact and affect the profession and the patients it serves. Anything from hosting a practice visit, to talking with a legislator, to attending a national federal affairs forum.

  • Grassroots NetworkAPTA relies on its network of dedicated grassroots activists to bring physical therapy issues to the attention of Members of Congress and other policy makers. There are many ways to get involved, including hosting a practice visit with your elected representatives, as well as becoming a Federal Affairs Liaison, Key Contact, or PTeam member.
  • Tools for AdvocatesAPTA provides a variety of ways and resources to help physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy get involved with advocacy efforts to support the physical therapy profession and the patients it serves.
  • EventsAPTA has 2 advocacy events held annually that provide information on legislative activities, the issues the profession and its patients are facing at both the state and national level in the areas of policy and payment, and more. These events also provide opportunity to speak to, and hear from legislators and representatives.
  • Student InvolvementAPTA provides specific ways for physical therapy students to get involved in advocating for the profession and the patients they serves, including the Student Advocacy Challenge and the PT-PAC Student Stars Club.
  • Recognition of Advocacy EffortsAPTA appreciates the outstanding advocacy efforts made by our members and champions at the state and federal level. Each year we recognize these superior efforts by presenting advocacy awards at the State Policy and Payment Forum and the Federal Advocacy Forum.
